A cake recipe for all foodies:

Preheat the kitchen stove to 175 degrees.

Sift together cream of tartar, flour, baking soda and salt and set aside.

Beat butter, shortening, and 1 cup (250g) sugar in a large baking bowl until light and creamy. Add milk, vanilla, egg, and orange zest and mix well. In portions, add the flour mixture and mix in well.

Shape the dough with your hands into balls just under 4 inches thick. Roll the balls in the remaining sugar, place them 4 cm apart on a greased or parchment paper-lined baking sheet and flatten twice with a fork (crosswise). Gives a nice pattern.

Bake the cookies in the center of the oven for about 8-10 min. Cool for about 2-3 min on the tray and then cool completely on a cooling rack.

When these cookies come out of the oven they are a little bit soft, but they will firm up a little bit as they cool.
